Fliege Voglein- Dvorak

Performers: B. Bonney and A. Kirchschlager

I don’t usually post two in a row by the same composer, but this one is just so different from the last! Singing this duet now and it’s absolutely delightful.

So this showed up on my dash as I was listening to the Pärt I just posted…
Stare into the center as you listen to the repeating string lines of the Pärt and prepare to be absolutely mesmerized.

Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten - Arvo Pärt

The structure of this piece is amazing…

From the Philadelphia Orchestra program notes: “…the underlying chord is an A-minor triad. Half of the string players sustain the notes of the traid while the other half play descending A-minor scales in alternating long and short values. The first violins play these descending scales in their upper register and at a quicker tempo, while the second violins play the same scale an octave lower and at half the speed. The violas are another octave lower, and slower again, the pattern repeating with the cellos and basses…the instruments settle on an A-minor triad.”
